Rock County Courthouse

Rock County Courthouse is in the very southwest corner of Minnesota. It is built of pink quartzite, one of the hardest stones known to man.  Yet the salts were eating this quartzite away.

Amazingly, upon inspection of the courthouse’s foundation, it was found that the quartzite could be scratched with just a fingernail. The salts had penetrated, softened, and were literally disintegrating the quartzite. The county has a deep respect for their heritage buildings and chose to save the foundation from further erosion by installing a RENODRY system. The courthouse will likely be around for another 100-200 years or more for Rock County residents and visitors to serve and be served. It is dry now, and the salts have ceased eroding the quartzite.
