Amazingly, upon inspection of the courthouse’s foundation, it was found that the quartzite could be scratched with just a fingernail. The salts had penetrated, softened, and were literally disintegrating the quartzite. The county has a deep respect for their heritage buildings and chose to save the foundation from further erosion by installing a RENODRY system. The courthouse will likely be around for another 100-200 years or more for Rock County residents and visitors to serve and be served. It is dry now, and the salts have ceased eroding the quartzite.
